Gallery Director Essay

Robert C.V. Lieberman, like his famous father Archie, is an accomplished photographer. Maybe it runs in the family, story-telling genes that is. But these interesting photos are a story from a different dimension - literally different.

The artist has been flying drones for years, from the simple toy-versions to his latest - the best that technology has developed. He uses it practically, mostly for architectural imagery. But these photos are not practical pieces.

In this very pristine and clean show (notice, no tags to divert the viewer), we walk around the images (or should I say 'fly') from one landscape to another. What a strange feeling and exhilarating visuals.

We're looking at the midwest, specifically in the driftless Wisconsin and Galena, Illinois areas. But you've never seen it this way (unless you go to work in a hot air balloon). What fun. Photography is here to make you look at the familiar in a different way.

Special thanks goes to Noah Bullock, Coordinator of the Bisignano Art Gallery, who worked with the artist and hung this elegant show.

I wonder if these works might stimulate some of the Communication or Digital Art and Design students to experiment with drone photography...
